hill-station

Cool highland town

A hill-station is a town in the mountains of South Asia, typically established during British colonial rule as a retreat from the heat of the lowlands.

Colonial administrators and their families would relocate to hill-stations during the hottest months: Simla served as the summer capital of British India.

Many remain popular vacation destinations today.
