Tuileries

Louvre's neighboring park

The Tuileries is a formal garden in Paris stretching from the Louvre to the Place de la Concorde.

The name comes from tile factories that once occupied the site.

The Tuileries Palace, a royal residence that stood adjacent to the garden, was destroyed by fire in 1871 during the Paris Commune.

Today the Tuileries refers almost exclusively to the gardens.
