Thunderdome

Two enter, one leaves

Thunderdome is a combat arena from the 1985 film *Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome*, where disputes are settled by fights to the death under the rule "two men enter, one man leaves." The term has become shorthand for any chaotic, winner-take-all competition or hostile environment where only the strongest survive: The comments section turned into a thunderdome.

Often used humorously for situations that feel more brutal than they probably are.
