Ravenna

Adriatic Italian city

Ravenna is a city in northeastern Italy, near the Adriatic coast.

It served as capital of the Western Roman Empire in its final decades and later as seat of Byzantine rule in Italy.

The city is renowned for its early Christian and Byzantine mosaics, among the finest surviving examples of the art form.

We spent a day in Ravenna marveling at the mosaics.
