Springfield rifle
Civil War firearm
A Springfield rifle is any of several military rifles manufactured at the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts, particularly the bolt-action M1903 used by American forces through both World Wars.
The term most often refers to this model: His grandfather carried a Springfield rifle in the trenches.
Earlier Springfield rifles include the single-shot "trapdoor" models of the post–Civil War era.
