military drills

Soldiers rehearsing warfare

Military drills are exercises that train soldiers in combat techniques, weapons handling, formations, and procedures.

The repetition builds muscle memory and unit coordination so responses become automatic under pressure.

Drill also refers to the formal movements performed in ceremonies and parades: The cadets practiced their drill for hours.

By extension, any rigorous, repetitive training may be called a drill.
