Union Army
Blue-clad soldiers
The Union Army was the land force that fought for the United States during the American Civil War (1861–1865), opposing the Confederate Army of the seceding Southern states.
The term distinguishes the federal military from Confederate forces: His great-great-grandfather served in the Union Army.
Sometimes called simply "the Union" when context is clear.
