Smarties

Brainy-named sweets

Smarties refers to two different candies depending on where you are.

In the UK and much of the world, Smarties are candy-coated chocolate drops similar to M&Ms, sold in cylindrical tubes.

In the US and Canada, Smarties are small, tart, pastel-colored tablets made of compressed sugar, sold in cellophane rolls—what the British call Fizzers or Love Hearts.

The name suggests cleverness, playing on the idea of candy as a treat for bright children.
