cellophane

See-through food film

Cellophane is a thin, transparent film used for wrapping and packaging.

Made from plant cellulose, it has a distinctive crinkly texture and was once ubiquitous for wrapping gift baskets, candy, and flowers.

Though largely replaced by plastic films, cellophane remains associated with that see-through, glossy wrap: The bouquet came wrapped in cellophane.
