Sally Ride

Sally Ride was an American astronaut who in 1983 became the first American woman in space.

A physicist by training, she flew on two Space Shuttle missions before leaving NASA.

She later became a science educator and advocate for encouraging girls in STEM fields.

Her name sometimes appears as shorthand for barrier-breaking achievement: She's the Sally Ride of her industry.
