Alan Shepard

Alan Shepard was an American astronaut, the first American in space.

His 1961 suborbital flight aboard Freedom 7 lasted just fifteen minutes but established the United States as a competitor in the space race.

A decade later, he commanded Apollo 14 and became the fifth person to walk on the Moon—famously hitting golf balls on the lunar surface.
