Russian dolls
Hollow stacking figures
Russian dolls are a set of hollow wooden figures that nest inside one another, each slightly smaller than the last.
You open one to find another inside, and another, until reaching a tiny solid doll at the center.
Also called matryoshka or nesting dolls.
The image extends to anything with layers concealing more layers: The scandal revealed Russian dolls of corruption—each revelation exposed another underneath.
