nested boxes

Nested boxes are boxes placed inside one another, each fitting within the next larger one.

The term describes both physical containers—like Russian nesting dolls or gift box sets—and abstract structures in computing, where data elements contain other elements of the same type.

The code used nested boxes to organize the menu hierarchy.

The image suggests containment within containment, recursion made tangible.
