Faberge eggs
Imperial Russian treasures
Fabergé eggs are ornate jeweled eggs created by the House of Fabergé for Russian royalty in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Each egg opened to reveal an elaborate miniature surprise—a tiny golden hen, a jeweled crown, a working model of a ship.
The term now describes any highly decorative egg-shaped object, or figuratively, something precious, intricate, and painstakingly crafted: The restoration was a Fabergé egg of a project.
