strong force
Binds atomic nuclei
The strong force is one of four fundamental forces of nature, responsible for holding atomic nuclei together.
It binds quarks into protons and neutrons, and binds those particles to each other despite the electromagnetic repulsion between positively charged protons.
The strong force operates only at extremely short distances—within atomic nuclei—but is the most powerful of all fundamental forces at that scale.
