Kowloon

Mainland Hong Kong district

Kowloon is a densely populated urban area in Hong Kong, located on the mainland peninsula across Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island.

The name means "nine dragons" in Cantonese.

Kowloon often appears in discussions of urban density, Hong Kong history, and the former Kowloon Walled City—an ungoverned enclave demolished in 1993 that became legendary for its anarchic, labyrinthine character.
