Diamond Head

Oahu's volcanic cone

Diamond Head is a volcanic crater on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, forming a distinctive landmark near Honolulu.

The name comes from 19th-century sailors who mistook calcite crystals on its slopes for diamonds.

It appears frequently in travel writing and photographs as an iconic symbol of Hawaii: We hiked to the top of Diamond Head at sunrise.
