High Renaissance

Leonardo's artistic era

The High Renaissance is the period of Italian art from roughly 1490 to 1527, when Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael produced their most celebrated works.

The term marks a peak of technical mastery and classical ideals before the disruption of Rome's sack in 1527.

It remains the touchstone for Western artistic achievement: a High Renaissance masterpiece.
