anti-art

Aesthetic defiance movement

Anti-art is art that deliberately rejects or mocks traditional artistic values, techniques, and institutions.

The term emerged with Dada in the early twentieth century, when artists created works designed to challenge what counts as art at all.

Anti-art often employs absurdity, randomness, or found objects to undermine conventional aesthetics: Marcel Duchamp's urinal was the ultimate anti-art statement.
