HIV-2
Rarer immunodeficiency virus
HIV-2 is the less common of the two types of human immunodeficiency virus, found primarily in West Africa.
It progresses more slowly to AIDS than HIV-1 and is less easily transmitted.
Standard HIV tests screen for both types: The patient tested positive for HIV-2, not HIV-1.
