Gulf of Guinea

West African waters

The Gulf of Guinea is a large bay of the Atlantic Ocean along the western coast of Africa, roughly where the continent curves from west to south.

It spans from Liberia to Gabon, encompassing waters off Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

The gulf gives its name to the two Guineas on its shores and historically to the gold coin called a guinea.
