Grandmaster Flash

Hip-hop DJ legend

Grandmaster Flash is the stage name of Joseph Saddler, a pioneering hip-hop DJ who helped establish turntablism as an art form in the late 1970s.

He developed techniques like punch phrasing, scratching, and quick mixing that became foundational to DJ culture.

With the Furious Five, he recorded "The Message" (1982), one of the first hip-hop songs to address social issues directly.

The name has become synonymous with hip-hop's origins in the South Bronx.
