Geometridae

Looping caterpillar clan

Geometridae is a large family of moths whose caterpillars are called inchworms or loopers.

The name comes from Greek words meaning "earth measurer," describing how the larvae move by drawing their back end forward to meet the front, then extending forward again—appearing to measure the ground as they go.

Adult geometrid moths typically have slender bodies and broad, delicate wings, often held flat when at rest.

The pale green moth on the window screen was a geometrid.
