FM stereo

Dual-channel radio signal

FM stereo is a broadcasting method that transmits two separate audio channels—left and right—over FM radio, creating the spatial depth of stereo sound.

Before FM stereo became standard in the 1960s, radio was monaural.

The term often appears on receivers and tuners: The FM stereo indicator lit up when I tuned to the station.
