FGM
Harmful traditional practice
FGM is an acronym for female genital mutilation—the practice of cutting or removing parts of the external female genitalia, typically performed on girls.
The practice occurs in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, usually for cultural or religious reasons.
International health organizations classify it as a human rights violation.
Also called female circumcision or female genital cutting.
