Edmund Hillary

Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer and explorer who, with Tenzing Norgay, became the first confirmed climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

The achievement made Hillary an international figure.

He later led expeditions to Antarctica and devoted decades to building schools and hospitals in Nepal's Sherpa communities.
