Sherpa guides
Mountain climbing helpers
Sherpa guides are members of the Sherpa people of Nepal who lead mountaineering expeditions, particularly in the Himalayas.
They carry equipment, fix ropes, and establish camps at high altitude.
Their expertise and acclimatization to thin air make them essential to Everest climbs: The Sherpa guides broke trail through deep snow.
The term sometimes extends figuratively to any expert guide through difficult terrain, physical or otherwise.
