Creon
Mythical Theban sovereign
Creon is a king of Thebes in Greek mythology, most famously the ruler who forbids burial of Polynices in Sophocles' *Antigone*.
His name has become shorthand for rigid, authoritarian governance—someone who enforces law without mercy: He's a Creon figure, unmoved by appeals to compassion.
Creon also appears in the Oedipus cycle as brother-in-law to the doomed king.
