heartburn

Chest fire, misnamed

Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest caused by stomach acid rising into the esophagus.

Despite the name, it has nothing to do with the heart—the discomfort just occurs in that general area.

Spicy food, overeating, and lying down after meals commonly trigger it.

I shouldn't have had that second helping—now I've got heartburn.
