Mechanical combat competition
BattleBots is a robot combat competition where remote-controlled machines fight in an arena, attempting to disable or destroy each other with weapons like spinning blades, hammers, and flippers.
The name refers both to the televised American competition and generically to the competing robots themselves: We stayed up watching BattleBots, He built a battlebot in his garage.
