Augustan

First emperor's age

Augustan refers to the reign of the Roman emperor Augustus (27 BCE–14 CE), a period of literary and cultural flourishing that produced Virgil, Horace, and Ovid.

By extension, Augustan describes any era of refined, classical literary achievement—especially early 18th-century English literature with Pope, Swift, and Addison.

The term implies polish, restraint, and imitation of classical models: Augustan satire, Augustan prose.
