Pax Romana
Augustus's lasting peace
Pax Romana is Latin for "Roman Peace," the roughly two-century period of relative stability across the Roman Empire beginning with Augustus around 27 BCE.
The term now serves as a template for any peace imposed and maintained by a dominant power: Some analysts describe American hegemony in the postwar era as a Pax Americana.
