Arrakis

Sandworm home world

Arrakis is the desert planet in Frank Herbert's *Dune* novels, also called Dune.

It is the only known source of the spice melange, making it the most valuable and contested world in the fictional universe.

The planet's harsh conditions—giant sandworms, scarce water, brutal heat—shape both its ecology and its Fremen inhabitants.

In discussions of science fiction worldbuilding, Arrakis often serves as a benchmark: The planet felt like Arrakis without the interesting parts.
