piston pump
Cylinder-driven fluid mover
A piston pump uses a reciprocating piston to move fluid through a cylinder.
As the piston draws back, it creates suction that pulls fluid in through an inlet valve; as it pushes forward, it forces fluid out through an outlet valve.
Piston pumps generate high pressure and handle viscous fluids well, making them common in hydraulic systems, oil wells, and pressure washers.
