Apollo program
NASA lunar endeavor
The Apollo program was NASA's spaceflight effort that landed humans on the Moon between 1969 and 1972.
Apollo 11 carried the first astronauts to walk on the lunar surface.
The program ran from 1961 to 1972, achieving six successful Moon landings before its conclusion.
Apollo often serves as shorthand for ambitious, large-scale technological achievement: We need an Apollo program for clean energy.
