service module
Vessel's utility hub
A service module is the section of a spacecraft containing essential support systems—power, propulsion, life support, and supplies—as distinct from the crew compartment or command module.
The Apollo service module housed oxygen, fuel cells, and the main engine, remaining attached until just before reentry: The service module was jettisoned over the Pacific.
