union shop
Required labor organization
A union shop is a workplace where employees must join the union or pay union dues within a specified period after being hired.
The employer can hire anyone, but continued employment depends on union membership.
This arrangement differs from a closed shop, where only existing union members can be hired, and an open shop, where union membership is entirely optional.
