Alcazar
Seville's royal fortress
An alcazar is a Spanish palace or fortress, originally built by the Moors.
The word comes from Arabic for "the castle." Several historic alcazars survive as landmarks, most famously in Seville and Segovia: We toured the Alcazar of Seville.
The term occasionally appears in English for any grand fortified residence with Moorish architectural influence.
