Abolitionism

Crusade against bondage

Abolitionism is the movement to end slavery, particularly the organized effort in the 18th and 19th centuries to abolish the Atlantic slave trade and chattel slavery in the Americas.

The term now extends to campaigns against other practices deemed morally intolerable: prison abolitionism, abolitionism regarding the death penalty.

An abolitionist advocates for such causes.
