wimples

Medieval head coverings

Wimples is the plural of wimple, a cloth headdress that frames the face and covers the neck and chin.

Wimples were common medieval attire for women and remain part of the habit worn by some orders of nuns: The sisters in their wimples filed into the chapel.

The verb wimple means to cover with or form into folds.
