x-intercept

Horizontal axis intersection

The x-intercept is the point where a line or curve crosses the x-axis on a graph—where y equals zero.

A line might have one x-intercept, a parabola might have two, and some curves have none.

In the equation y = 2x − 6, the x-intercept is 3, because that's where the line meets the horizontal axis.
