abscissa
Distance from y-axis
The abscissa is the horizontal coordinate in a two-dimensional coordinate system—the x-value that indicates distance along the horizontal axis.
In the ordered pair (3, 5), the abscissa is 3.
The term is mathematical and somewhat formal; in practice, most people simply say "x-coordinate." The vertical coordinate is the ordinate.
