discriminant
Quadratic nature indicator
In mathematics, the discriminant is an expression calculated from the coefficients of a polynomial equation that reveals properties of its solutions.
For a quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0, the discriminant is b² − 4ac: positive means two real roots, zero means one repeated root, negative means complex roots.
Check the discriminant to see if the equation has real solutions.
