wordbuilding

Constructing new terms

Wordbuilding is the process of creating new words or expanding vocabulary, especially in constructed languages or fictional worlds.

In gaming and fantasy writing, worldbuilding establishes settings and histories; wordbuilding does the same for language: The author's wordbuilding included dozens of elvish terms.

The term also describes educational activities where students learn to form words from roots and affixes.
