viola
Between two cousins
A viola is a stringed instrument slightly larger than a violin and tuned a fifth lower, producing a deeper, mellower tone.
It holds the alto voice in the string family and is a standard member of orchestras and string quartets.
Viola also names a genus of flowering plants that includes violets and pansies, recognized by their distinctive five-petaled blooms.
She switched from violin to viola in high school.
