Face-like garden flower
A pansy is a garden flower with velvety, multicolored petals, often displaying a distinctive "face" pattern.
The word is also a slur for an effeminate man or a gay man, or more broadly, someone considered weak or cowardly: Don't be such a pansy.
The insult derives from the flower's delicate appearance and its association with effeminacy.
