videocassettes
Magnetic film cartridges
Videocassettes are plastic cartridges containing magnetic tape for recording and playing back video.
The format dominated home entertainment from the late 1970s through the 1990s, with VHS winning out over Betamax.
People rented videocassettes from stores, recorded television programs, and built home libraries before DVDs and streaming made the format obsolete: a shelf full of old videocassettes.
