two-seam fastball

Tailing hard throw

A two-seam fastball is a baseball pitch gripped along the ball's narrow seams rather than across them.

The grip produces more movement than a four-seam fastball—typically sinking or tailing toward the pitcher's arm side—at the cost of some velocity.

Pitchers use it to induce ground balls: His two-seamer got the double play.
