four-seamer
Maximum backspin pitch
A four-seamer is a fastball thrown so the four seams of the baseball rotate visibly toward the batter, creating backspin that keeps the pitch relatively straight and high in the strike zone.
It's the most basic and typically fastest pitch in a pitcher's arsenal: He blew a four-seamer right past him.
Also called a four-seam fastball.
