trawls

Drags the bottom

Trawls are large fishing nets dragged along the sea bottom or through the water to catch fish in quantity.

A trawl can also be the act of trawling or the boat that does it.

The verb means to fish this way, and by extension, to search methodically through something: Police trawled through hours of surveillance footage.

To trawl for something is to seek it out systematically: recruiters trawling for talent.
